It makes you wonder…

Al lezende in Miles & Huberman (1994) kwam ik de volgende quote tegen. Erg toepasselijk en it makes you wonder… Hoewel een inkopper natuurlijk is het wel goed om af en toe dergelijke quotes te lezen. Het geeft tegelijkertijd weer nieuwe energie om door te gaan :-)

“The biggest enemy of your learning is the gnawing worry that you’re not “doing it right.” Dissertation work tends to encourage that. But any given analytic problem can be approached in many useful ways. Creativitiy, inventing your way out of a problem, is definitely the better stance.” (Miles & Huberman, 1994, p.14)

    Wat betreft validiteit wordt ook vaak kwalitatief onderzoek onder vuur genomen, daarom de volgende quote uit Kvale (1996):

    “A postmodern movement from knowledge as corresponding to an objective reality to knowledge as a social construction of a reality involves a change in emphasis from an observation of, to a conversation and interaction with, a social world. When validation is conceptualized as a social construction of knowledge, with a communal negotiation of its meaning, communication of the findings become as a focal part of the research project” (p.268).

    Het doel van een onderzoek is niet zozeer het creeren van de waarheid, maar meer een constructief gesprek aangaan over een waarheid. Puur het opgang brengen van een discussie om tot betekenis te komen… Eat that objectivists!

    Kvale doet het goed, ook in het boek van Miles & Huberman. In de eerste hoofdstukken (met name hoofdstuk 3) wordt regelmatig teruggegrepen op deze ‘grootmeester’ :) Zijn zijn ideeën toch niet zo gek…

    De briljante vraag van Kvale (1988; 1996)
    “How shall I find a method to analyze the 1.000 pages of interview transcripts I have collected”

    Krijgt het nog briljantere antwoord:
    “Make sure you never get in a position where you have to analyze 1.000 pages of interview transcripts”

    Leuke quotjes zo bij elkaar :)
