Drie nieuwsberichten van de afgelopen dagen zijn noemenswaardig in de ontwikkeling van portable social networks, het idee dat je profielinformatie en netwerk niet gebonden blijft aan één service, maar meegenomen kan worden naar andere diensten:

Three’s Company Or Three’s A Crowd? Google To Launch “Friend Connect” On Monday

“Google will launch a new product on Monday called “Friend Connect,” which will be a set of APIs for Open Social participants to pull profile information from social networks into third party websites.”

MySpace Embraces DataPortability, Partners With Yahoo, Ebay And Twitter

“MySpace is essentially making key user data, including (1) Publicly available basic profile information, (2) MySpace photos, (3) MySpaceTV videos, and (4) friend networks, available to partners via their (previousy internal) RESTful API, along with user authentication via OAuth“

Facebook Responds To MySpace With Facebook Connect

“Facebook connect will allow users to “connect” their Facebook identity, friends and privacy to any website. Third party websites will be able to implement and offer more features of the Facebook Platform off of Facebook”

Zijn we dit weekend getuige geweest van misschien de laatste en belangrijkste stap in het openstellen van social networks? Ik ben benieuwd wat voor interessante en innovatieve toepassingen ontwikkeld gaan worden zodra deze profiel- en netwerkinformatie daadwerkelijk beschikbaar komt. Momenteel ben ik in de initiatiefase van een project waarbij de beschikbaarheid van deze content van grote toegevoegde waarde kan zijn, dus ik houd dit met interesse in de gaten!
